Community Blooms is a donation driven program that brings the beauty and joy of local, seasonal flowers to randomly selected people in the Monterey and San Francisco Bay areas.
How does it work?
By making a donation of any size to the Community Blooms program, you participate in making it possible for us to anonymously offer flower bouquets from small local farms to random people in the Monterey and San Francisco Bay Areas. Donation funds determine the number of bouquets delivered each week, and a weekly blog shares the stories of how your donations, and the flowers, have helped individuals in the community to bloom.
How Community Blooms Began
The first order I received upon opening my flower farm webshop was for a bouquet to be anonymously delivered to a random person on the street. I was moved by the generosity of this customer, and was absolutely blown away when the eyes of the person to whom I gave the bouquet filled with tears of joy, not just for the flowers, but for the realization that a complete stranger gave such a gift. To give with no strings attached is one of the most powerful gifts we can offer to one another.
When I told people about the experience, the response was an enthusiastic desire to participate - to give to others with no strings attached. I was uncomfortable, however, with the idea that one could participate in the giving only if one could afford to buy a bouquet. I didn't want the positive impulse to be limited by finances. To that end, I have create a special fund where donations can be pooled and used to cover the costs of as many bouquets as possible, allowing even the smallest donations to become part of a collaborative effort to help the community bloom.
