Localife Farm and Gardens is nestled among the Redwoods of Santa Cruz County, CA. We believe that flowers are a gift from Mother Nature, and as such, we seek to thank her by treating her with care, respect and reverence.
We are grateful for the ancient wisdom of the Amah Mutsun, the original people who first loved and tended this land (and continue to do so), and we draw from the wisdom of biodynamic agriculture and the organic agricultural movement.
Most importantly, we draw on the wisdom of this land upon which we have the privilege to live and work. To do so requires that we develop a dynamic relationship with our surroundings, recognizing the farm as a living being with whom we wish to maintain a lasting friendship. We strive to understand what will help her thrive.
I was born in Santa Cruz County, and spent my childhood in the company of Nature, forming a life-long friendship. I always felt completely understood and nourished by Nature, and have sought to reciprocate by listening, observing and attempting to better understand what I can do to be nourishing in return. My dream is to have given more than I took when I leave this world, and no one can inspire me in that more than Mother Earth herself.
I started in the business of flowers because flowers, more than anything else I know, speak of joy, creativity, and abundance. I love to grow food and medicine as a practical matter. Our bodies need them. Flowers, though...they not only feed an inconceivably large number of life forms (ours included) they feed our spirits with their astonishing variety of sizes, shapes, colors and fragrances -- with their astonishing vitality. Flowers are teachers of art, science, and resilience.
To give back more than I take, when I take flowers, means I must give back more than just the practical. I must give, in abundance, my joy, my creativity, my reverence, and my love. This I do gladly.
